Phase 2 Reopening Overview

We are pleased to announce the start of Phase 2, created by the Knox County Health Department and Mayor’s Office. Our main focus is still to protect the health and safety of our members and staff. You can expect several changes as we enter into Phase 2 on Tuesday, May 26th. In order to comply with state and local governance, we will operate under a revised schedule and with several new guidelines in place, outlined below:

  • When at least 12 feet of physical distancing cannot be consistently maintained inside, employees and patrons must wear face coverings.
  • Tennis can allow singles and doubles play.
  • All showers will be open on May 26th.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Pool will open on May 26th.
  • When at least 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be consistently maintained outside (pool or tennis), face coverings are required.
  • Basketball Court/Gymnasium will open on May 26th for single player shoot around. No pickup games. Maximum of 4 people on each side of the court (Gymnasium maximum is 8).
  • Youth Development will be open on June 1st. Employees are required to wear a mask. While social distancing of children is difficult our staff will ensure proper steps are taken.

Remaining Guidelines

  • All members must bring their membership card in order to complete self-check-in at the front desk.
  • Upon arrival, you will be asked a series of screening questions recommended by the Knox County Health Department.
  • Members must wash or sanitize their hands upon entering and leaving the facility.
  • Staff and members must observe social distancing when moving around the facility and participating in designated classes.
  • Online registration is required to attend group fitness classes, and class size will be reduced in order to allow for social distancing.
  • Staff will be sanitizing equipment after each use in the fitness and group fitness studios. We are asking members to assist us after each group fitness class and on the fitness floor.
  • Racquetball courts will be limited to two players at a time.
  • Tennis, The Day Spa, GRIT, RENEW, and Group Fitness will all remain open in Phase 2. Appointment/registration is required for all.
  • Visits or workouts must be limited to 2 hours. No guest allowed.

Monday – Friday 5:30 am – 8:00 pm
Saturday 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday 10:00 am -6:00 pm

Group Fitness Pre-Registration

To help maintain safe social distancing space we are limiting the number of participants in our group fitness classes. All classes will require a pre-registration via the FSHFC mobile app or the FSHFC website member login portal. Register on the app or online for class as early as 24 hours in advance.  In order to sign-up for classes please follow the steps below.

  1. Download our app from Apple iOS here, and for Android devices here.
  2. Login to the FSHFC app.
    • Username: Email you have on file with FSHFC.
    • Password: Has to be created by our Membership Team unless you previously had one created. Email jforman@covhlth.com to create an email.
  3. Select “Group Fitness” from the sidebar.
  4. Select what class you would like to pre-register for and select “Book Now”. If it says “Add To Calendar” you’re most likely not logged in to the app. If you’re logged in and  it still says “Add To Calendar” contact our Membership Team at 865-531-5049.

Website Member Portal Sign-Up Directions

  1. Go to the main Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center website.
  2. Select “Member Portal” located at the top of the website via a phone. If you’re using a computer the “Member Portal” tab will be on the left side of the cover photo.
  3. Select “sign in” at the top of the page.
  4. Login to the Member Portal. 
    • Username: Email you have on file with FSHFC.
    • Password: Has to be created by our Membership Team unless you previously had one created. Email jforman@covhlth.com to create an email.
  5. Select “Group Fitness” from the top toolbar.
  6. Select the class you want to take and select “book now”.

Yes, we will limit the number of participants to maintain social distancing. Classes will begin on Monday, May 4th.


According the Knox County Reopening Guidelines we will be allowed to have 375 people in the facility at a time.


Screening questions will be provided by the Knox County Health Department and will be posted at the entrance of the facility. You can also visit and print them above.


Starting on June 1st

  • Regular 2 hour time limit for childcare.
  • Kids will wash their hands upon entering and an hour into our care.
  • Kids 3 years and older are recommended to wear a face covering, but it is not required.
  • Kids will need to be sanitized and checked in at the front desk before going to Kid City or KidFit. 
  • Parents need to bring a membership card for all kids to ensure they can self-scan at the front desk.

Youth Development Hours

Monday-Friday: 7:50 am – 7:00 pm

Saturday: 8:30 am -4:00 pm

Sunday: 12:50 pm – 5:00 pm


For the month of May we will charge the full membership dues amount, but we will refund 50% of your dues by the end of May. Full membership rates will begin on June 1st.


The Day Spa will be open starting Monday, May 4th. You must make an appointment though. The Pro Shop will remain closed at this time.

When at least 12 feet of physical distancing cannot be consistently maintained inside, employees and patrons must wear face coverings. When at least 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be consistently maintained outside (pool or tennis), face coverings are required.


The staff at FSHFC will be cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day plus staying after hours to clean the facility. While the staff will be cleaning equipment and machines after each use, we ask that members help when appropriate.


According to the Knox County Reopening Guidelines Phase 2 will last a minimum of 14 days.


No, the Knox County Reopening Guidelines do not allow guest. This includes non-member tennis players.


Yes, but only two players at a time and you must wear a mask. Please bring your own equipment.


Yes, the Knox County Reopening Guidelines requires all members and staff to sanitize or wash their hand upon entering a facility. In addition, members and staff will need to sanitize their hands frequently once they’re in the facility.


All members will be required to bring their membership card and self-scan at the front desk. If you need a new card please alert the front desk at 865-531-5000. As you approach the check-in station please follow our traffic pattern and continue to your destination through the locker room after your check-in.


Yes, all members will have 2 hours to workout.


While we were closed due to COVID-19, we have spent time thoroughly cleaning the entire facility and implementing additional sanitation policies. We will continue to maintain a clean and safe environment for all members and employees. However, if you still do not feel safe we ask you to contact the Business Office to discuss your options. Yes, but you must follow the same guidelines as members. This includes wearing a face covering when you’re within 12ft of someone inside and 6ft outside.
